A photo exhibition with the theme “Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet – portrait of a Person” was opened in Ho Chi Minh City on Nov. 16 on the occasion of the 86 th birthday of late PM Vo Van Kiet (Nov. 23).

The exhibition, co-organised by the Vietnam News Agency and the Vietnam Photographers Association, shows 86 documentary and art photos taken by journalist Ngo Minh Dao.

The exhibits include portraits of the late PM and photos of PM Kiet with Party and State leaders, PM Kiet with foreign politicians and his activities with different businesses and social circles as well as his daily life.

Photographer Minh Dao said PM Kiet made strong impressions on him when he worked with the late PM. PM Kiet was a broad-minded person, a long-sighted leader very familiar to people, Dao said (Source: VNA).

On this occasion, the National Politics Publishing House has published a photo book by Minh Dao, named “Portrait of Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet”.

“I’ve worked for the Vietnam News Agency since 1960 and I was a war reporter in Quang Binh, North Quang Tri and during the border war in 1979. In 1980, I was assigned to take photos of activities of leaders of the Party and the state, such as Le Duan, Pham Hung, Do Muoi, etc. Starting in 1990, I began taking photos of Vo Van Kiet,” said correspondent and photographer Minh Dao.

“The period from 1990 to 1999 when I took photos of Mr. Kiet was the time of the open-door for integration. Documentary photos about political activities of Mr. Kiet belong to the Vietnam News Agency. Photos about his daily life are my own assets,” he added.

According to the photographer, who has retired, Vo Van Kiet also liked photography. He was an honourable member of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA).

In 1996, to walk on Hanoi streets and to taste Hanoi’s special cuisines as an ordinary man, the former PM disguised himself as a southern man with a moustache, felt hat, etc. Photos about this trip are now being made public for the first time at the exhibition (Source: Lao Dong).

The exhibition will last until Nov. 23.-Enditem.
